How to Make an App Stay on Top in Windows?

Sometimes you need to make an app stay on top of other programs to keep an eye on it or for better multitasking. This article will show you how to make an app always stay on top of other apps in Windows 10 and 11. Some programs have an option to remain on top of other windows; others do that by default. Although Windows provides an API that allows users to make an app always on top, not every developer has implemented it. Therefore, very few apps provide the native capability to stay on top. Fortunately, Microsoft provides a free tool that lets you make an app always on top in Windows 10 and 11.

Besides, PowerToys allows pinning several apps simultaneously, playing sound, highlighting pinned windows, and customizing the activation shortcut. It is indeed a power toy.

  1. You can download PowerToys from its GitHub repository or the Microsoft Store (also available from winget). Get the app and install it. PowerToys works in Windows 10 and 11.
  2. Launch PowerToys.
  3. Go to the Settings section and find the Always on Top tab.

Note. Always on Top tool is not limited to just one app. You can pin any number of windows you want. Just switch to another app and press the shortcut keys again.

How to Disable Always on Top App in Windows 10/11?

Press Win + Ctrl + E or use the previously assigned buttons to disable the Always on Top tool.

It is worth noting that some apps stay above other windows by default. For example, settings in Zoom. If the developers do not provide an option to disable that behavior, you can do nothing about that.
