How to Edit iMessage on iPhone?

iMessage has many benefits compared to messengers from other developers. It is available on every Apple device and provides better security and a seamless experience across your devices. One of the most significant downsides of iMessage (apart from missing Windows and Android support) is that Apple updates its messenger once a year with major operating system updates. Such an approach makes development significantly slower than other solutions and makes Apple users wait for some features for years. One such feature is the ability to edit iMessage on iPhone, and apple has finally added this feature after more than a decade since the iMessage debut.

How to Edit Sent iMessage?

iMessage lets you edit a message to correct a typo or add extra information without sending one more message. Still, you should keep in mind several limitations. For starters, you need to update to iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS Ventura to edit iMessage. The person you are texting should also run the latest OS. Otherwise, they will receive the edited message as just another message.

iOS 16 supports the following iPhone models:

  • iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone Xs and Xs Max
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE 2nd and 3rd generation
  • iPhone 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 mini, 13, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max

Another noteworthy thing is that you have a small editing window. Apple allows editing messages sent via iMessage for 15 minutes after sending. Also, devices updated to iOS 16 can see the history of edits, so it is not the best option if you want to hide some sensitive information from the already sent messages. Finally, you cannot edit standard SMS messages with green bubbles because Apple has no control over this ancient technology.

Here is How to Edit iMessage:

  1. Tap and hold the iMessage you want to edit.
  2. Select Edit from the context menu. You can right-click the message on iPadOS if you use a trackpad or mouse. edit imessage
  3. Make the necessary edits and tap the button with a checkmark.
  4. Apple will let the recipient know that you have updated the message and place an “Edited” button next to the message.

How to Find iMessage Edits?

Apple lets you edit a single iMessage for up to five times. Every time you edit a message, iOS or macOS creates a new history entry. To see your or your recipient’s edits, tap the blue “Edited” button next to a message.
